Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF) | PCHF Profile
Our vision: Not a single CHD patient should remain untreated.
Approximately 50,000 infants in Pakistan are born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) every year and almost 25% of them need immediate surgery in the first year of their life. Overall 50% of CHD patients born need surgery/intervention at least once during their lifetime. Till date, there isn’t a single specialized children’s heart hospital in Pakistan, due to which many of these children die as there is a lack of diagnoses or a delayed diagnosis. According to the Pakistan Pediatric Cardiology Society, currently Pakistan has less than 30 trained Pediatric Cardiologists and 10 Pediatric Cardiac Surgeons. In just one of the government hospitals the queue of patients waiting for surgery has crossed 13,000, and 25–30 new cases are added to the patient pool every week.
The outlook for children, especially from the impoverished families, is bleak.
Farhan Ahmad, an information technology expert, Partner at Maison Consulting & Solutions and an accountant by profession, after personally experiencing the difficulty in getting access to quality pediatric cardiac care, decided to make this cause his own. After exhaustive meetings, brainstorming and research, Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation was established in 2012.
The main objectives of PCHF are:
i. Project CHHRI: Building a non-profit Children’s Heart Hospital & Research Institute (CHHRI) to serve as centre of excellence, with Misbah Ul Haq as its brand ambassador.
ii. Project Mohsin: Financially supporting children’s heart surgeries/interventions.
iii. Creating Awareness & Advocacy of CHD for the general public as well as policy-makers.
iv. Enablement of hospitals through foreign medical missions.
We at PCHF are striving to help children start a new life, and we have managed to devise a system where we fund heart surgeries of deserving patients at various partner hospitals.
Team PCHF has also started working on building a non-profit dedicated Children’s Heart Hospital & Research Institute (CHHRI), to serve as centre of excellence and where free of cost heart surgeries of deserving children will be performed.
PCHF maintains separate accounts for Zakat and donations.
